special starnight announcement
Due to an immediate medical issue that will leave Mickey Thomas unable to perform for several weeks, Starship Featuring Mickey Thomas will be unable to attend and perform at StarNight 2019. We wish Mickey Thomas a speedy recovery.
While we were so excited to welcome Starship to Chattanooga, we are equally excited to bring another great entertainer to join us at StarNight 2019, the Grammy nominated and multi-platinum selling band, the Plain White T's.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, August 24 beginning at 6pm at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Thanks for your support of Siskin Children's Institute and children with special needs and their families we serve.
AUGUST 24, 2019
CHATTANOOGA CONVENTION CENTER | 6PM
StarNight Welcomes the Plain White T's!
Since emerging in 1997, the GRAMMY® Award-nominated multiplatinum Chicago quintet—Tom Higgenson [vocals], Tim Lopez [lead guitar, vocals], Dave Tirio [rhythm guitar], Mike Retondo [bass], and De’Mar Hamilton [drums]—has amassed an enduring, engaging, and enigmatic catalog, spanning two gold-certified offerings All That We Needed (2005) and Every Second Counts (2006) and unshakable anthems such as the double-platinum “1,2,3,4” and platinum “Rhythm of Love.” Among the discography, “Hey There Delilah” went quadruple-platinum, topped the Billboard Hot 100, and earned a pair of 2008 GRAMMY® Award nominations in the categories of “Song of the Year” and “Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.” Along the way, the five-piece logged countless miles on the road in front of sold out crowds in nearly every corner of the globe. After a whirlwind tour cycle supporting 2015’s American Nights, the guys hunkered down and began writing the ideas that would eventually comprise Parallel Universe, slated for an August 2018 release. The band’s endlessly hummable signature melodies still shine at the center of this galaxy, but their Universe morphed into an otherworldly atmosphere of ethereal electronic pop strengthened by lush guitar tones and synth transmissions.
StarNight is the Institute’s largest fundraising event and, as Chattanooga’s premier annual gala, attracts nearly 1,500 people. All proceeds benefit the children and families served by the Institute. What began as a fundraiser has transformed into the premier black-tie event of Chattanooga. The evening includes a cocktail reception, elegant dinner, concert performance by a first class entertainer, and after party with live band and dancing. This highly anticipated late summer show features a prominent entertainer each year with a star-studded mix of legendary favorites and rising stars. Past entertainers have included Tony Bennett, Dinah Shore, LeAnn Rimes, Emmylou Harris, Kenny Rogers, Three Mo’ Tenors, Hootie and the Blowfish, Sugarland, Colbie Caillat, The Band Perry, Kevin Costner and Modern West, Sheila E., and LOCASH.
This Year's Event
In addition to enjoying the Plain White T's, StarNight guests will enjoy a full night of entertainment as Chattanooga native Robin Grant will grace our cocktail reception stage. Robin has been delighting local audiences for many years. With the recent release of her first critically acclaimed CD, Good Girls she is now garnering national attention. Good Girls is a collection of original jazz songs reminiscent of the all-time great standards. The album debuted at number four on iTunes jazz charts. Robin's soulful songs may take her listeners back to the great Tinpan Alley days of the 1920's 30's and 40's, but it's with an edgy delivery and sizzle that resonates with the youthful in body & spirit. Her live shows showcase her vocals throughout her diverse repertoire of all-time-favorites mixed with her popular original compositions.
To round out the night, Bizz & Everyday People will keep you dancing in the StarNight after party. The group, based out of Nashville, TN, hosts dynamic talents who have dedicated their lives to music. They’ve performed all across the Southern United States since 2011.
StarNight 2019 opens with a cocktail reception featuring Robin Grant beginning at 6 p.m., then moves to a formal dinner followed by a concert performance by the Plain White T's. An electrifying after-party with dancing and music from Bizz & Everyday People will round out the night. Both the cocktail reception and concert performance feature an open bar. Cash bars will be available during the after-party.
