Community workshops

Siskin Children's Institute is happy to support children and families by providing workshops that build skills and community. Workshops vary and are open to all families including those not currently receiving services at the Institute unless otherwise noted. See below for a current list of available workshops.

   May 28- June 7 | Handwriting Readiness  

Led by an occupational therapist, this workshop is ideal for preschool aged children between the ages of four and six years old and will provide a developmentally appropriate approach to handwriting using the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. 

   June 3- June 7 |Communication Devices, A Workshop Series for Parents

Join Mallory Sliger, speech pathologist, as she provides parents of children utilizing augmentative and alternative communication devices a opportunity to learn how to successfully incorporate it into a child's daily life. Parents will gain knowledge and skills that they will be able to easily introduce at home to foster better communication with their child. 

   June 13 | Using Your Voice for Change: An Advocacy Workshop  

Join Sara Scott from Family Voices of Tennessee and Lisa Spurlock from Siskin Children's Institute for a session focused on learning to use your voice to create change and advocate for your child. Parents will learn how to tell their stories effectively and where to put their voices to work.  

   June 22 | Make It & Take It: Developing  Visual  Supports

Siskin Children's Institute is proud to partner with the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's  Treatment & Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) program and the Chattanooga Autism Center to provide  free workshops for parents of young children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.   

   July 1- July 12 | Handwriting Readiness

   August 10 | Improving Mealtime Routines
