Improving social skills in children ages 7-10
Our center provides evidenced based Social Skills Groups for children with High Functioning Autism, Social Anxiety, and other children with difficulties navigating social situations. The program is modeled after the evidenced based curriculum of SSGRIN-HFA, a program included in SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices.
During the intervention, a multidisciplinary treatment approach is offered on skills such as verbal and nonverbal communication, listening skills, bullying, perspective taking, cooperation, compromise, and other social problem solving skills. The program utilizes rich graphical elements (e.g., video, comic strips, and workbooks), embraces interactive group activities, and emphasizes involvement from families and caregivers. The full intervention is an extensive 15 week program, generally comprised of 3-5 children between the ages of 7-10. To minimize disruption to a family’s schedule, the groups meet once a week after school hours.
